Topanga Canyon Mudslides and Road Closures

Topanga Canyon Mudslides and Road Closures

No doubt you’ve heard about the mudslides occurring on the S-curves from the (much-needed) rain. Here’s an update from Michael Comeaux, Caltrans’ District 7 Public Information Officer:

Actions underway: A contractor is mobilizing to determine the best steps to remove the rocks and mud from the roadway; meanwhile, Caltrans continues monitoring and assessing the slopes and hillsides for any signs of further movement of trees, rocks or soil.

Traffic: Roadside portable electric signs and seven of Caltrans’ permanent electronic freeway message signs are being used on Pacific Coast Highway, US 101 and State Route 27 to alert drivers about the closure of Route 27.

Local access: Based on safety reasons, at this time there is no early limited access for local residents.

Estimated opening: The estimated opening of the highway is approximately Thursday, Jan. 26, which is a preliminary estimate and subject to change.
